Things to Pack While Travelling with An Emotional Support Dog

Nowadays, people from all walks of life have an emotional support dog. Some also take them along while going on a trip to deal with travel anxiety.

If you are planning to take your adorable emotional support dog, you will be extremely happy to learn that traveling with them will be a game-changer.

Having them by your side will give you a sense of freedom, making you more confident at every step. Here’s a roundup of the things that you need to carry while going anywhere with your furry friend.

Emotional Support Letter

The first thing that you should be carrying if you are planning to travel is their documents. It is the most important part of traveling so that you are allowed to take them along on any mode of transportation. Most of the authorities will check the documents beforehand, so be prepared for it.

An ESA letter is issued for a year, so always check your letter is not expired or expires while traveling as only dogs with the valid card will be allowed.

Medication

While packing your essential medications, also pack a few of your dogs. Some dogs are not used to traveling in crowded places, so carry some lavender oil to soothe the dog in such stressful situations. Even Benadryl is really helpful in making your dog sleep. But ask the vet about the medications and dosage before giving any medicine for nausea, diarrhea, and other common issues.

And, while traveling dogs are exposed to many medications, ensure you carry worm medication for your dog.

A Blanket or Bedding

At times, traveling with the ESA can be a traumatic experience. To make it comfortable, carry a bed or blanket. Especially during long transits, take the opportunity to bed down your dog so that it feels more settled in his favorite blanket and can comfortably take a nap in the transit.

A Travel Carrier

Even if you have a small dog, you should not forget to bring a travel carrier. Though it is not mandatory to keep them in it, it is quite handy to carry your pet in it when they are jittery during travel or just not pleased to be carried in hand.

Travelling is a stressful event for everyone, so a carrier helps the dog to thrust into the new situation. And, within some time the dog gets used to the unusual stimulations of the station.

Something to Clean

No matter how trained your pet is, accidents occur. Considering the anxiety and stress they might go through while traveling, it is better to be prepared to clean up. Though your dog doesn't do it, you should be able to clean up if a messy situation arises.

So make a checklist to pack all these things to avoid getting in any trouble while traveling with your emotional support dog. After packing these items, you are completely ready for some adventure with your furry friend.
